The visit to Iran by the delegation led by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia continues

On February 1st, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan visited the "Aliq" newspaper publisher, while on his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meeting with the editorial staff of the paper, Vigen Sargsyan spoke about Armenian-Iranian relations and the current and future tasks being carried out, and being planned at the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. He presented the accomplishments achieved by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, and answered questions posed by the participants. The head of the defense administration of the Republic of Armenia also presented details concerning the "nation-army" concept.

On February 1st, the delegation led by Vigen Sargsyan visited the Armenian Diocese of Tehran and met with the Primate of the Diocese Bishop Sepuh Sargsyan and representatives of the Iranian-Armenian community and spiritual council.

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia expressed how highly he valued the contribution of the Armenian church and diaspora structures in preserving Armenian culture, and strengthening and developing friendly relations between Armenian and Iran.

On February 1st, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarifi and the General Secretary of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Shamkhani.

During the meeting with Mohammad Javad Zarifi, the importance of increasing defense cooperation between the two nations was highlighted. Discussions centered on questions concerning the reinforcement of Armenian-Iranian cooperation, deepening of friendly relations between the two peoples, as well as regional developments.

Valuing the cooperation between the two nations in various fields, and highlighting the need to develop the relationship, the sides also stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region, as a necessary precondition to the stable development of regional states.

Vigen Sargsyan presented the situation on the Artsakh and Azerbaijan line of contact, and the efforts applied by the co-presidents of the OSCE Minsk group to resolve the conflict. Highlighting the need to resolve the conflict through peaceful negotiations, both sides reaffirmed preparedness to contribute to establishment of peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting with General Secretary of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Shamkhani, questions concerning development of friendly relations between Armenia and Iran, development of cooperation in a variety of fields, and provision of security and stability in the region were discussed.

The parties spoke about priorities of Armenian-Iranian cooperation, and highlighted the need to further develop bilateral cooperation.
