Ambassador's meeting with the Secretary General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO

On April 23, Artashes Toumanian, Ambassador of Armenia to Iran, met with Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, Secretary General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO. The sides discussed some issues related to the cooperation between two countries in the framework of UNESCO, as well as bilateral scientific and cultural relations. Ambassador Toumanian noted with gratitude that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran treated Armenian historical and cultural heritage in its territory with care and made some of them inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List. He attached importance to the development of cultural tourism through which Iranians could get more acquainted with the rich Armenian culture. He also noted that scientific and cultural cooperation between Armenia and Iran had a significant potential for development.

Nasiri Gheydari, as a physicist and President of the Astronomical Society of Iran, touched upon the great contribution Armenia and Armenian astrophysicists, especially Benjamin Markarian, made to the development of astronomy. He also mentioned Armenia’s role in the International Astronomical Union. Nasiri Gheydari highly appreciated Iranian-Armenians’ activities, as well as briefly introduced Iran’s policy towards the expansion of Armenia-Iran cultural relations.
