Ambassador Toumanian met with the Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics of Iran

On December 12, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Artashes Toumanian met with the Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics of Islamic Republic of Iran, Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

In the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Toumanian conveyed to Brigadier General Amir Hatami warm greetings by Vigen Sargsyan, Minister of Defence of Armenia and expressed his satisfaction with the current state of security and defence cooperation between Armenia and Iran.

Highly appreciating the level of Armenia-Iran relations, Minister Hatami noted that strengthening relations with neighbouring countries was one of the main core policies of Iran and during past 26 years relations between Armenia and Iran only developed.

Presenting Armenia’s position on peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ambassador Toumanian highly appreciated Iran’s balanced approach to the peaceful resolution of the conflict based on international law. Artashes Toumanian also gave importance to the permanent consultations between the two defence institutions with regard to defence and regional security.

For his part, Minister Hatami noted that Iran’s balanced policy aimed at fostering peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and called on parties to continue the negotiations for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Interlocutors also touched upon the ongoing situation in the Middle East emphasizing the need in establishing long term peace which was of all countries’ interest.

Colonel Artur Aznavuryan, newly appointed military attaché of Armenia to Iran, was also present in the meeting.
