27th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia

On September 24, an event dedicated to the 27th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia was organized by the Armenian Embassy in Iran at the Ararat sport and cultural complex of Tehran.

A number of Iranian government officials, representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Iran, international organizations, mass media, NGOs, cultural figures and a lot of members of the Armenian community in Iran attended the event.

Mr. Artashes Toumanian - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, delivered a speech on the occasion. He touched upon the recent political processes in Armenia, reforms carried out by the new authorities, spoke about the main directions of the Armenian foreign policy, especially in the context of the relations between Armenia and Iran.

When speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict, Ambassador Toumanian noted that Armenia continued to adhere to the policy of peaceful settlement of the conflict based on the self-determination of the people of Artsakh and other fundamental principles of international law. Mr. Toumanian underlined the importance of the balanced position of Iran on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenian Ambassador highlighted the role of the Iranian Armenian community in the strengthening of the ties of bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Iran.

Mr. Reza Ardakanian - Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Co-Chair of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission made a welcoming speech during the event.
