During the visit of Chairman of SRC Davit Ananyan to Iran, a memorandum of understanding was signed “On exchange of information between the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia and the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding exchange of information regarding the customs value of goods and vehicles moved across the customs borders of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

The memorandum created grounds for setting the correct customs value of the goods and vehicles moved across the border of Armenia and Iran. Cooperation and mutual assistance was established between the parties in matters of information exchange regarding the customs value of goods, as well as an opportunity arose to manage customs control of goods moved across the border effectively.

By signing the document, the cooperation between the relevant subdivisions was strengthened, and this will have a positive effect in terms of detecting customs violations and solving existing issues more quickly and efficiently. More favorable conditions - aimed at fighting evasion of customs duty, tax and payments - were created to enliven bilateral trade turnover.

During the visit, a bilateral meeting took place with Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran Farhad Dejpasand, during which matters of mutual interest were discussed and possible areas of cooperation between the parties were outlined. Particularly, the parties discussed matters regarding increasing good and passenger turnover and regarding reconstruction of Meghri Border Checkpoint with the help of UNDP. The participants also talked about the international conference to be held with UNDP’s and SRC’s joint efforts, during which matters related to trans-border customs procedures as well as top actions required for turning Armenia into a transit and trade corridor via Iran for the markets of EU, EAEU, China and India were discussed.
