The first session of Armenia-Iran working group on labor and social affairs was held during December 22-25 in Tehran. The main objective of these meetings was to sign “The Joint Action Plan”, discuss and specify the dimensions of bilateral cooperation in the field of labor and social affairs. The two countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on “Cooperation between The Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of labor and social affairs” in 2011.

The Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Zaruhi Batoyan, visited Iran on this purpose, invited by Mohammad Sharitmadari, Minister of Cooperatives Labor and Social Welfare of Iran.

The Armenian Minister expressed that this visit can serve to enhance the cooperation between the countries in the fields of labor and social security, to get familiarized with innovative projects, new experiences and to expand constructive dialogs. She pointed out, the signing of the Joint Action Plan can institutionalize and foster the further bilateral ties.

In the MOU signed in 2018 in Yerevan during the 15th session of “The Joint Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran” a section was allocated to “Labor, Social Security and Cooperative”, according which it was expected to hold relevant meetings either in Tehran or Yerevan to discuss the capacities and dimensions for further cooperation and compile action plan.

In the 16th session of “The Joint Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran” held in July 2019 in Tehran, the Iranian party presented to the Armenian party the above mentioned Action Plan meanwhile expressing the readiness of Iranian party to hold a working group on this matter in Tehran in the fourth quarter of the current year.

The Action plan includes points for technical and vocational trainings and cooperation on labor, employment and social security.

During her stay in Tehran Ms. Batoyan visited Armenian “Ararat” sport and cultural complex, Prelacy of Tehran and St. Sarkis cathedral where she had meetings with Archbishop Sebouh Sarkissian, Prelate of Armenia diocese of Tehran and officials from the community.
