Days of Iranian Culture in “Matenadaran”

On the verge of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Iran a series of event will be launched from 3 Nov, 2021 in “Matenadarn” the Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts named after “Mesrop Mashtots”. Vahan Ter-Ghevondian Director of the institute and Hossein Tabatabaei, Adviser of the Cultural Center of the Iranian Embassy in Armenia in a joint press conference elaborated the heading events, Hamid Malekian the prominent scholar and expert in restoration of old manuscripts from Iran was present in the press conference as well.

The cultural, historical and political relations between Armenia and Iran dates back to thousands of years ago. More than hundred Persian manuscripts and documents are preserved in Matenadaran collections, the evidence for this historical tie between two peoples. The Iranian collection is a rich treasure in Matenadaran, moreover it is a priority for the Institute in doing researches and restorations. In this respect a workshop in theory and practice about the “restoration of manuscripts’ covers of Qajar era” was organized.

In the series of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Iran worth mentioning was the debut of the book  “ Persian decrees of Matenadaran” authored by Kristine Kostikyan, the senior researcher in the department of oriental studies in Matenadaran , an exhibition dedicated to the culture and art in Qajar era was inaugurated ,displaying works of Iranian Gilding , decrees, book covers and photography of Antoin Sevruguin, the  exclusive photographer of Naser al-Din shah and founder of  artistic photography in Iran.  Fine artworks such as costumes and weavings belonging to the personal art collection of Yvette Tajarian, senior researcher in Matenadaran and curator of the exhibition, were displayed for the first time in this exhibition.
