Diplomatic relations

The diplomatic relations between Republic of Armenia and Islamic Republic of Iran were established on February 9, 1992. In April 1992 the Embassy of the I. R. of Iran was opened in Yerevan and in December 1992, the R. of Armenia opened its Embassy in Tehran.

On Sept. 30, 2022 Morteza Abedin Varamin, Iranian Consul general received his exequatur from Armenian Foreign Minister and officially started his mission.

Political dialogue

Top ranking officials of Armenia and Iran have meetings and contacts on frequent basis.

On Nov. 1, Nikol Pashinyan, Prime minister of the R. of Armenia paid a visit to the I. R. of Iran.
On Oct. 21, Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenian Foreign Minister and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister took part in the opening ceremony of General Consulate of the I.R. of Iran in Kapan.
On Sept. 24 ,2022 in New York on the sidelines of 77^th session of the UN General Assembly, Armenian Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan met H. Amir-Abdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister.
On Sept. 22 ,2022 in New York on the sidelines of 77^th session of the UN General Assembly, Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the R. of Armenia had meeting with Ebrahim Raisi, President of the I. R. of Iran.
On July 7-8, 2022 Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran paid a visit to Armenia.
On June 14-17, 2022 Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia had an official visit to the I. R. of Iran.
On May 10-12, 2022 the 17^th session of the joint intergovernmental commission of Armenia-Iran was held in Yerevan.
On Feb.19,2022 Armenian Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan had meeting with H. Amir-Abdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister in Munich.
On Oct. 4, 2021 During his working visit, Ararat Mirzoyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia had meeting with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Foreign Minister of the I. R. of Iran.
On Sept. 17,2021 Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the R. of Armenia on his working visit in Dushanbe had meeting with Ebrahim Raisi, President of the I. R. of Iran.
On Aug. 5, 2021 Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the inauguration oath ceremony of the newly elected President of the I. R. of Iran, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.

Economic and trade relations

Iran is considered one of the main trade partners for Armenia and it is ranked among the first five trade partners. Both countries have active cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation, environment, health, agriculture, inter-provincial relations, education, science, culture etc.

During January-August 2022 the value of trade exchange between Armenia and Iran reached $427389.4 thousands USD. Value of export has been $74412.0 and the import from the exporting country valued $353180.9. The import from the origin of the commodity was $ 352977.4 thousands USD in value.

During January-October 2022 the value of trade exchange between Armenia and Iran reached $565,5 thousands USD, this amount shows 45,3% increase comparing the same period last year,from this amount the export from Armenia to Iran was 91,71 million $USD with 82,4% increase and the import to Armenia from the country of origin was 473,78 million $USD showing 39,8% increase.

Inter-parliamentary relations

The relations between the parliaments of two countries has shown a notable advance. Parliamentary friendship groups are active in both countries. Exchanged visits between Armenia-Iran Parliamentary friendship groups and Iran- Armenia Parliamentary friendship groups have inspired both legislative bodies.

Legal and contract sphere

Approximately there are 180 international legal active documents inked between Armenia and Iran, including MOUs, agreements, contracts and other accords.

Armenian community of Iran

The Armenian community in Iran is quite active and live. A fairly amount of Armenian cultural heritages exist in Iran.
