“Millennia of Armenia-Iran friendship and regional developments” Round table

On May 31, a round table discussion with topic: “Millennia of Armenia-Iran friendship and regional developments” was held in Yerevan State University (YSU) in the department of Iranian Studies (IS) of the faculty of Oriental Studies (OS).

An academic delegation from the Caucasus Studies Institute of Tehran University (CCSI) visited the IS of YSU in order to discuss the academic and scientific bilateral cooperation of two countries.

Armenian and Iranian academics present in the round table delivered speeches on a number of issues such as: “census and Iranian people in Azerbaijan in post-soviet period (Kurds, Talyshes, Tats)”, “Presence of Iran and Russia in Armenian Syunik province as the balancing factor of regional challenges” etc. Two sides also discussed the capabilities and framework of bilateral cooperation.

Based on the MOU signed with Tehran University, the representative office of CCSI will operate in YSU-IS and programs for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, academic conventions, round tables will be organized accordingly.

Ruben Melkonyan, dean of the faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU, Vardan Voskanyan, head of the department of Iranian Studies (YSU), academic staff from University and the department, Ebrahim Motaghi, dean of the faculty of Law and Political Science of Tehran University, professors and scholars from the same University and CCSI: Shiva Alizadeh, Zohreh Poustinchi and Jafar Khashe were present in the event.
