19 September, 2023

The Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan presented the violations of human rights as a result of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in the direction of Nagorno Karabakh to the delegation headed by Dr. Askar Jalalian, Deputy Minister of Justice for Human Rights and International affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the meeting, Anahit Manasyan stated that Azerbaijan grossly violates the principles of international law, creates a real danger in terms of ensuring the right to life and security of the civilian population, as well as other fundamental rights.

Anahit Manasyan specifically pointed out that Azerbaijani aggression and bellicose rhetoric pursue the goal of subjecting the civilian population to ethnic cleansing through the use of force, depriving them of the right to live freely in their homeland.

"As a result of the actions of Azerbaijan, all fundamental rights of the civilian population have been violated in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Today, people were killed and injured including children, civil infrastructures were targeted such as schools, residential buildings, etc.," stated the Defender.

Anahit Manasyan also presented the issues related to human rights in the border settlements of the Republic of Armenia as a result of the actions of Azerbaijan. In this context, the Defender noted that she personally visited those settlements and implemented fact-finding activity, the results of which were included in the ad hoc reports.

The Defender also presented the priorities of the Office of Human Rights Defender and the main directions of work. In this context, the Defender emphasized the exchange of skills and experience at the international level between independent institutions for the protection of human rights.
