RPA delegation participated in the ICAPP Special Conference on the Silk Road in Tehran

 On February 1-4, the delegation of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) represented by Hermine Naghdalyan, Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia and member of the National Assembly Mihran Hakobyan, took part in the ICAPP (International Conference of Asian Political Parties) Special Conference on the Silk Road held in Tehran.
Ambassador Artashes Toumanian and officers of the embassy were present at the opening ceremony which was held in the Iran International Conference Center.
Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs of Iran, Jose de Venecia, Founding Chairman of the ICAPP, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Philippines, Mohammad Nabi Habibi, Secretary General of the Islamic Motalefeh Party of Iran and other politicians made speeches during the opening session.
Mihran Hakobyan made a statement in the session entitled “Political Parties and Sustainable Urban Development” speaking about some problems and tendencies regarding urban development.
Hermine Naghdalyan in the session entitled “The role of political parties in political and social development along the Silk Road” emphasized the regional and global significance of the Silk Road and Armenia’s capabilities to become a part of it.
The delegation of the RPA met with the representatives of Asian political parties, Jose de Venecia, Founding Chairman of the ICAPP and Mohammad Reza Majidi, Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). Representatives of the ICAPP participating political parties expressed their support for the intention of the RPA to become a member of the ICAPP. Also, Secretary General of the APA expressed his readiness to support membership of Armenia’s Parliament in the APA.
Before leaving for Yerevan, MPs Hermine Naghdalyan and Mihran Hakobyan visited the Armenian Diocese of Tehran and met with Archbishop Sepuh Sargsyan.
