Question: Tensions over Lachin corridor have escalated during the recent weeks, what is your assessment in this regard?

Answer: Since 12 December 2022, Azerbaijanis have orchestrated a plot and in result, free and normal flow of essential items and movement of population have been disrupted along Lachin corridor. The corridor has been established by trilateral statement of prime minister of Armenia, president of Azerbaijan and president of Russian Federation on 9 November 2020 in order to ensure the connection between Armenian and Mountainous Karabagh (MK). Despite of claiming that a group of environmental activists have blocked the corridor it is obvious that this very plot has been organized by Azerbaijani official authorities having the intention to cut off the connection of MK with the Republic of Armenia and the world outside.

As a result of this act the population of MK have been deprived from the right of free movement. Now MK is facing basic food supply and humanitarian catastrophe, created situation contradicts the point 6 in the trilateral statement of Nov. 9,2020 based on which Lachin corridor is controlled by peacekeeping forces of Russia meanwhile the R. of Azerbaijan guarantees the safe movement of citizens, vehicles and cargo. Hence Azerbaijan has harshly violated its own internationally recognized commitment. This attitude of Azerbaijan not only shows the lack of addressing and consideration for the rights of the people in Mk and having dialogue with Stepanakert but, demonstrates the pursuing policy of Baku in perpetrating ethnic cleansing in Mk. Blocking Lachin corridor is an objective sign of numerous warnings demonstrating that Azerbaijan has been applying the policy of genocide towards the Armenians of M. Karabagh. The frequent violation of ceasefire across the line of contact by Azerbaijani armed forces and the relevant plots shows how real and critical are the risks facing the existence of Armenians in Mk.
