Armenian Christmas at Churches of Isfahan New Julfa

The Nativity and Baptism of Jesus Christ were observed at churches of Armenian district New Julfa in Isfahan on Jan.5,2023.

In Armenian tradition, this feast day commemorates not only the birth of Christ, but also his baptism by John the Baptist. The latter is remembered through the “Blessing of Water” ceremony, which follows the Divine Liturgy (Armenian Rite/ Badarag).

On Dec. 5 these services were held at St. Stepanos (St. Stephen), St. Minas, St. Hovhaness (St. John the Baptist), Holy Savior cathedral (Vank) and Holy Bethlehem churches.

The Armenian Rite held in Vank Cathedral at 5:00 p.m. evening service was presided by Bishop Sipan Kejejian, Prelate of Armenians of Isfahan and south of Iran. The parish as well as the authorities of the diocese were attending the ceremony, who were received later by Bishop to express their congratulation for the feast.

The Service held in

Arsen Avagyan, Ambassador of the R. of Armenia to the I.R. of Iran was present in the ceremonies at St. Bethlehem church and  St. Stepanos church presided by Bishop Kejejian and in collaboration with Priest Khachatour Zargarian.

 

On this occasion a church service was held at St. Vartan church in the city of Shahin Shahr where an Armenian community exists. The ceremony was presided by Priest Sahak Minassian, the blessing message of Bishop Kejejian was conveyed to the audience as well.
