A tribute to Yerevan State University professor

On March 26, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Yerevan State University (YSU) organized an event to honor the 60th anniversary of the head of the Chair of Turkic Studies, Ph.D. Professor Alexander Safaryan.

Prof. Alexander Safaryan was born on March 24, 1964. He started his career a lecturer at the Turkic Studies Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU in 1990 and has been the head of the Turkic Studies Department since 1996.

YSU rector, vice-rectors, deans of other faculties, heads of departments, students participated in the ceremony.

The event was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Professor Arsen Avagyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia Bolat Imanbayev, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Armenia, Muhammetgeldi Ayazov. The latters in their speech emphasized YSU rector Hovhanness Hovhannisyan and Professor A. Safaryan's exceptional role in the strengthening Armenian-Kazakh and Armenian-Turkmen centuries-old friendship and development of scientific, educational and cultural ties.
