During the history of Armenian Diocese of Atrpatakan numerous monasteries and churches have been built in that region, some of them are still standing but some are in state of disrepair.

Followings are currently the active churches:

  • Cathedral of Holy Mother of God (Surp Asdvadzatzin), Tabriz - Berdatagh
  • Saint Sarkis Church, Tabriz- Lilava neighborhood
  • Pilgrimage site of Holy Mother of God, Tabriz-Maralan neighborhood
  • Shoghakat Church, Tabriz- national cemetery
  • Monastery of Saint Thaddeus , located near Maku, West Azerbaijan province, part of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
  • Monastery of Saint Stepanos ,located near Jolfa, Sham canyon/Darasham- East Azerbaijan province, part of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
  • Chapel of Dzordzor , located near Maku, West Azerbaijan province, part of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
  • Stepanos Church ,Urmia ,West Azerbaijan province
  • George Church (Surp Gevork), Urmia – Gyardabad Armenian village
  • Church of Holy Mother of God, Urmia- Rahva Armenian village
  • Hripsimeh Church, Mujumbar Armenian village, East Azerbaijan province
  • Hovhannes Church, Maragheh city, East Azerbaijan

 

The history of all Armenian Churches in the Diocese is introduced in a book compiled by Archbishop Grigor Chiftchian, Prelate of Diocese, in two volumes, named “Ughevorutyun Adrbadakani Hayots Temum Haykakan Hushardazanneri Hedkerov” (“A voyage in the Armenian Diocese of Atrpatakan on the traces of the Armenian Monuments”).

 

       Monuments existing in the Diocese

  • The monument dedicated to the Armenian Fidayees (irregular militia troops) victims fallen during the 1st revolution in Iran (Constitutional Revolution of Iran 1905-1911), erected in 1922 in the area of Saint Sarkis Church, the monuments is also being used as the memorial for the canonized victims of Armenian Genocide (24 April 1915)
  • The monument in memory of victims of Khoy Massacre in 1918, located in the area of St. Shoghakat Church of Armenian cemetery, built in 1988.
  • The monument to commemorate martyrs of Armenian Genocide, in the area of St. Stepanos Church in Urmia.
