Edward Hakhverdyan honored as the best translator of Persian literature

On Nov.3, the Cultural Center of the I.R. of Iran in the R. of Armenia in a ceremony honored Edward Hakhverdyan as the best and prominent translator of Persian literary works in Armenia. During this special ceremony E. Hakhverdyan received the Iranian world-known poet, Saadi Literary Award.

Saadi literary Award was established in 2022 by the Cultural Center of the I.R. of Iran in the R. of Armenia to honor the best Farsi- Armenian translators.

Hakhverdyan is a poet and translator who has translated and introduced more than 20 works of Persian contemporary literature to Armenian readers, the works of; Sadegh Hedayat, Forough Farrokhzad, Sorhab Sepehri, Ahmad Shamlou, Vahe Armen and his recently published translated masterpiece, Avesta.

Iran’s cultural attaché, Hossein Tabatabai, Edward Militonyan, Grigor Arakelyan, Vardan Voskanyan, Arevshad Avagyan, Karen Khanlarian, Andranik Simonian, Garoun Sarkissian and Khoren Aramouni (on-line) were speakers who had their remarks of appreciation and compliments on the occasion, E. Hakhverdyan in turn had his words of thanks.

E. Hakhverdyan has received many awards in both Armenia and Iran, among them the award of the Society of the writers of Armenia, (SWA) “Cantegh”, as the translator of the year and golden order from the Ministry of Culture of the R. of Armenia and SWA.
